# Several Claude Code accounts, one setup, nothing lost when I switch

Published 2026-11-04

![Several accounts, one setup. Plugins and skills, memory and history are the same on every account. Lost when one session moved between accounts on 3 and 4 November 2026: nothing.](https://www.dealmobile.co.uk/sites/default/files/styles/almanac_shot_md/public/content/images/posts/several-accounts-one-setup/hero.png.webp?itok=yULds6_U)

I have several Claude Code accounts signed in on one machine at the same time, and they share one setup: the same plugins, skills, memory and history. I pick the account for the job, and everything else is where I left it.

On 3 and 4 November 2026 I moved a long working session from one account to another in the middle of the task. The conversation, the memory and the tools were all there on the other side, and I carried on from the same point. Nothing was lost.

That is the whole claim, and I want to keep it small. It is one session on one machine, and I’m not saying more than that.

## Why I wanted it

My work doesn’t fit in one account. Different work belongs with different accounts, and the obvious way to cope is a second copy of everything: plugins installed twice, skills that drift apart, a memory that only knows half the story, and a session you can’t take with you. I didn’t want to maintain two of everything, so I stopped having two setups.

## What it buys me

The setup is the same whichever account I’m on, and a session isn’t tied to the account it started on. I choose the account, and nothing else about my working day changes.

It’s a tool I wrote for myself. It’s private, and for now it stays that way, so I won’t describe how it works here. What I’ll say is that it came from wanting my work to move freely. The other half of my setup is the part that [builds and tests software while I sleep](https://www.dealmobile.co.uk/writing/software-that-builds-while-i-sleep.md).
